The Buffoons pride themselves on building life-long bonds with each other. To do this, we have started a number of fun traditions throughout the years to celebrate the connections we’ve made and pay tribute to those who’ve paved the way for our success.

Traditions

Camp Foon

To immediately start to foster family in our new members, the Buffoons travel up to the Rocky Mountain highlands to camp and commune with the great outdoors. Taking over a campsite near Gross Reservoir just above Boulder, this is a weekend full of singing, hiking, yoga, lake time, and other fun activities. Camp Foon is a vital part of any new Buffoon’s journey from freshman to alumni and many recall the time as some of their favorite with the group.

Arches

Following most rehearsals, the Buffoons take a detour on their way home to give a short performance for anyone lucky enough to pass by the UMC. Started in the late 90’s by only a few members, this event has grown in size and even has its own name now. Tuesday and Thursday evenings you can find the group crooning under the arches by the courtyard, and if you’re lucky, another group might be joining in the fun that night.

Tribute

In the early 1980’s, the Buffoons were seeing some of their lowest membership in years. Worried about what this might spell for the future of the group, but also happy that he was able to be a part of the legacy in the moment, Jojo Davis sat down to write a song expressing his emotions about the state of the group. What resulted was Tribute, a short song about friends, old and new, ones that have been lost, and saluting the past while being optimistic of what its to come in the next chapter. The song quickly gained popularity within the group and before long it was the routine closer for all concerts and intimate performances. Even now, the current group asks for any alumni in the audience of any show to join them on stage for yet another performance of Tribute, singing for each other, and for Jojo, who sadly passed in the mid 90’s right before the Buffoons renaissance in the early 2000’s. We hope he continues to sing with us wherever he may be.

Let us sing a tribute to life as friends
